Program Title: Discovery and the Role of the Records Manager

Description:  Two experienced records professionals will speak on the challenges of eDiscovery and developing policies and process around managing it. Darin Zabriskie will speak on “Corporate Trends – A Service Providers Insight to Managing Discovery”; Jerry Rugh will speak on “Legal Hold Policy Development.”

Speaker Profile:  Darin Zabriskie serves as an Account Executive for Kroll Ontrack where he provides information management solutions that are consistent with industry best practices. He works regularly with Fortune 500 corporations and top law firms to develop the most defensible, efficient and cost-effective approach when facing discovery or regulatory demands. Knowledgeable in the trends and responsibilities associated with electronic evidence, Mr. Zabriskie guides his clients through all phases of the Electronic Discovery Reference Model, ensuring compliance and efficiency at every stage. His consultative approach allows him to clearly understand client objectives and provide strategies to optimize cost efficiencies and mitigate risk.

Jerry Rugh, has been in records management and ARMA since 2002. That year he started at Microsoft Corporation as a Legal Records Supervisor in LCA (Legal and Corporate Affairs) and within two and a half years was promoted to Legal Records Manager. Among his accomplishments at Microsoft, he developed the processes and protocols to migrate the department away from dependence on physical files. On his arrival, LCA had sixteen record centers across the Redmond campus; when he left six years later, they had three. Today, Jerry is the Records Manager for Davis Wright Tremaine, LLP, an international AMLAW 200 law firm. Among his major accomplishments since he started in 2008, Jerry developed, published in 2010 and implemented their records management policy, and he created the protocols, developed the internal workflow tool and implemented the program to manage firm-wide disposition of client files. This system within the next eighteen months will complete the disposition of all legacy client files, and he is just a few months away from a fully automated system to manage the complete lifecycle for client content in any media. In conjunction with the development of the records management policy, he led the project team in writing the litigation hold policy and protocol.
