It’s a “Deletion Party!” – with the University of Washington’s ROT Squad

It’s a Deletion Party!!

How to get your employees onboard and excited to clean out their email.

Presented by: Lynn O’Shea, Compliance Analyst, and Emily Lemieux, Assistant Director in Records Management Services at the University of Washington.

The UW RMS’s Deleting Parties were developed in late 2021 and first hosted in February 2022. The email Deleting Party is a live, Zoom workshop during which Lynn and her colleague Emily Lemieux provide an introduction to basic RM concepts, demonstrate how to search for specific types of email ROT, and give participants time during the event to find and delete their own ROT. Deleting Parties are specifically designed with a casual atmosphere, music, and clear instructions to empower participants who may otherwise find email management overwhelming. Deleting Parties also increase the profile of the RMS office, and let participants know that their RMS colleagues are approachable and reliable.

Lynn O’Shea is a Compliance Analyst in Records Management Services at the University of Washington. She has been in the information field for almost a decade, including work in the UW Office of Public Records. Lynn holds a MIS from the University of Michigan, and is passionate about enabling compliance in everyday workflows for clients across UW. Lynn has been a member of the ARMA Greater Seattle Chapter since 2017.

Emily Lemieux is Assistant Director in Records Management Services at the University of Washington. Before coming to the UW in 2019, she worked in New York state in museum and library archives, and information management in the international art world. Emily holds a MLIS from Queens College, CUNY, and is especially excited about outreach activities aimed at raising the awareness of our office for tens of thousands of UW employees.
