Program Title: Training the Average Joe or Jane in Records and Information Management

Description: A fully functioning Records and Information Management Program has training non records management employees or the average Joe or Jane. What type of trainings is records management distributing to staff? You will hear from three different programs a non-profit organization, a public agency and a law firm about their training programs. The panelist will also provide recommendation, successes and failures with training; also if online training is in the future.

Speakers:

Althea Burton, PATH
Althea Burton coordinates records management on the Knowledge Services team at PATH, an international nonprofit working in global health. Joining PATH in 2005, her expertise is in translating technology into real-world terms, serving as a bridge between technology and information specialists. Althea’s duties also include providing in-depth research for PATH staff. Althea previously worked at the Environmental Protection Agency as a library technician. She began her career as a technical specialist at the Kitsap Regional Library System. She has a Bachelor’s degree in History and Master’s degree in Information Management from the University of Washington. Althea is a dedicated tri-athlete and, with her partner, helps other women find their footing in endurance sports.

Danelle Court, City of Bellevue
Danelle Court has worked at the City of Bellevue for over three years as their public records analyst. Along with records management responsibilities one of her primary roles is to develop and lead the department’s training program, including administration of their learning management system. Danelle also helped to develop and train several hundred employees on the City’s high performance initiative. Outside of Danelle’s work life, she is also president of the Bellevue Eastside Chapter of ARMA and loves to hike and enjoy the outdoors with her husband.

Libby Johnson, Garvey Schubert Barer
Libby Johnson is the Assistant Records Manager at Garvey Schubert Barer in Seattle. She has eight years of experience providing records management training in law firms. Libby developed an interest in training while at WilmerHale in Boston, MA. Shortly after starting, she inherited the role of Subject Matter Expert for her department’s portion of new-hire orientation. In that role Libby quickly learned the value of building collaborative relationships with IT. At Garvey Schubert Bareer, Libby is responsible orienting new employees to the firm’s records program, as well as developing training materials. She is particularly interested in the use of Screencasting software to create on-demand training videos.
